Get Floor Is Lava on Google Play
His mom plays the game: and finds a bug
Lance had shown the game to his mom on the train, and reported back with real playtesting feedback, secondhand but accurate:
Lance: “When you jump on the platform and it teleports down.”
Me: “Oh, the teleport one. Yeah, we sort of fixed that bug… We’ve gotta fix that.”
Lance: “Because if the lava is very close to you, it’ll kill you. Then you try and jump, and you don’t notice that you’ll get teleported down.”
He also had a genuinely good design fix for a wasted-coins problem with the revive button; it currently respawns you in the exact spot you died, right next to the lava, making revives feel pointless:
Lance: “I want the revive button to make the lava go down by ten platforms, because the revive button just plays at the same place, and then you’re still in the lava. So it’s just a waste of coins.”
[…] Lance: “Maybe revive should turn the lava into water for three seconds.”
Me: “I think the original idea push the lava down, and then it only starts going back up after three seconds.”
[…] Lance: “Okay, let’s go with the lava going down.”
Fixing the swing-platform teleport bug
Tracked down and fixed two related teleport glitches tonight: walking off the edge of a swing platform was incorrectly teleporting the player back up, and falling off a ledge at a platform’s end was teleporting them back up to a different platform entirely. Both fully resolved.
Survival bonuses added
New reward for clean runs: finishing Parachute mode with all five hearts intact earns a 50-coin bonus; surviving Cavern mode without losing a heart to the bats earns 100 coins.
A quieter bug: falling forever in Timer Mode
Also traced an edge case where falling off a ledge in Timer Mode could mean falling indefinitely without ever reaching the lava: you’d just die anyway, but without the visual payoff of the lava catching you. Turns out the fix wasn’t to change how falling works, but to confirm Timer Mode deliberately has no lava surge at all; it’s a race against the clock, not the lava, so nothing needed to change there. A good reminder to check the actual intended design before “fixing” something.
