Turning Lance’s idea into Timer Mode

Lance’s Time Complete idea from May 4 (250 platforms, four-minute timer, lava rises to the top and kills you if you don’t make it) became today’s build target, expanded considerably. In my version, climbing never actually runs out; instead, the lava’s rise speed itself accelerates the higher you go: +1% every 20 platforms, +10% by platform 100, +100% (double speed) by platform 1,000.

I disabled lava “search” behaviour at the start so the ground doesn’t creep back up to you early: you get a genuine head start before the lava begins catching up.

Leaderboard-driven difficulty

The mode ships with a leaderboard and default target times; Lance settled on four minutes for 250 platforms as the starting benchmark. Beat it, and your time becomes the new target for the next player, effectively turning the mode into a live “race the best” ladder: if someone reaches 100 platforms in five seconds instead of two minutes, the next player only gets five seconds before the lava catches them.

🎮 Game Rules Log: May 13, 2026 (Timer / “Race the Clock” Mode)

  • Climbing is infinite: no fixed platform count to reach
  • Lava speed increases 1% per 20 platforms climbed, reaching 2x speed by platform 1,000
  • Checkpoints every 100 platforms up to 5,000, marked by a flag-waving animation
  • Lava-search disabled at the start, giving a genuine head-start window
  • Leaderboard best times set the pace for the next run: beat the record, and it becomes the new target everyone has to beat
  • A “Lava Surge” event and boulder-toss animation trigger when you cross certain platform thresholds

Finished by 5:30 p.m., after three or four prompt iterations; mostly settings changes on top of the existing game rather than new mechanics. When I showed it to Lance, he wanted Rocket Mode instead (“No, I want to see rocket mode”); a mode we’d already agreed, back on May 3, wasn’t going to happen.
