Meeting Donald, Lyssa’s Dad – Mad Chaos: June 16, 1998

How the days just fly.  Now, five days after my last entry I have an abundance of information to drop on you.  The reason it’s taken me five days to write instead of on Saturday is because Lyssa slept over my house on Friday night after a night out with her father.  On Saturday I felt obligated to accompany Lyssa to her nan’s house where we remained until Sunday.  Sunday afternoon we came back.  After a visit to Lyssa’s house to talk to her mum, we came back to my house via a lift.

Lyssa went to College on Monday and I thought I would have a chance to write in my Diary.  Lazing around on the computer for the day since I was hung up on my new game, I kept the idea of writing in my Diary in the back of my head.  Lyssa came to my house earlier than expected.  Staying over my house again last night I didn’t get a chance to write in my Diary.

Today Lyssa was nauseous, so I implored Lyssa not to attend College.  Instead Lyssa and I visited Campbelltown late in the day and I visited a doctor about an ear infection I was having.  Lyssa and I had a little tussle before she left for home, so now I’m here and writing in my Diary.

Now, let me specify the particulars of the days so far.

Marathon PC Gaming Playing Vikings

Thursday night I recollect that I was so wrapped up in my new PC game Vikings Vikings (The Strategy Of Ultimate Conquest) that I spent the whole night until the early hours of the morning playing it.  For that reason I was woken from my slumber when Lyssa called me at 11am.  Only speaking briefly I went back to sleep.

Vikings Ultimate Conquest

Waking up on Friday at 2pm, I had something to eat and started playing the game Vikings on the computer.  Starting to get ready, I kept playing Vikings on my computer until it was time to leave.

Prepare To Meet Lyssa’s Dad

Wanting to catch a bus to Campbelltown I was disappointed to find out that buses were on strike, so I almost ran.  Finding myself at Campbelltown I headed for Leumeah and awaited Lyssa while sitting on some seats.  Lyssa was on an early train.  She turned up not too long after.  We caught the early bus to Lyssa’s house.

Lyssa was jumping around being a hooligan anticipating the night as we walked at her front door.  No one was home.  The plan was for Lyssa to have a shower, do her makeup and then head for Leumeah Tennis Club where we would meet her dad.  Lyssa’s dad was already at Motel Formule One Hotel (a cheap hotel) getting ready for the night.

Getting some things ready to eat, Lyssa’s mum walked in the door not too long after us.  So embarrassed, I put back the food.  Anyway, I was eating at the Tennis Club, so no hassles.

Lyssa took her usual hour or more.  We were supposed to get a lift from Carleigh to the Tennis Club but being the bitch she is, she couldn’t get off her butt.  Instead, Lyssa’s mum drove us to the Tennis Club in her brand spanking new car.  Yes, she got it on Friday and was proud of her upgraded Mazda.

Nervous Meeting Donald And His Friends

Back to my story.  Getting dropped off at the Tennis Club we headed for the doors.  Once inside we paged Lyssa’s dad (whose name is Donald).  Not responding to the page, Lyssa headed in to look for her dad, as I waited.  Back in a couple of minutes I noticed them through the glass doors walking back towards reception.

All this time leading up to Lyssa’s dad meeting me, I’ve never been worried or distressed in any way.  Rather I took the approach of worrying about it when the time came, something I don’t normally do, but it worked.

Exchanging a handshake we were signed in.  Showing our identification, we headed for the rest of the group.  Thinking that Kuper and Carleigh would be the only other’s there, I was wrong.  Heading into the chatting room where there were TAB televisions and seating facilities in there, I noticed Donald walked to some of his friends.  That didn’t worry me, as Lyssa and I stood around five or six friends as old as Donald.

While we were seated right at the start of the night, Donald leaned in to ask me a question.

“Would like to accompany Lyssa as she visits her Nan on Saturday?”

“Sure I will,” I told him sarcastically.

Then Kuper and Carleigh thought my sarcasm was real when I asked.  At the end of the night, Lyssa even believed I was accompanying her to her Nan’s house.  I was in a little bit of a problem.

Drinks And Lively Conversation

They were all having a good old time drinking their beer.  Carleigh was also there.  At first I was slightly embarrassed.  But once Lyssa and I sat down with Carleigh it was alright.  Having a drink ordered for me I drank my orange juice, the only thing I drink when I’m out now.  Yes, gone are the days where I drink carbonated drinks.  Here are the days of orange juice and cordial.

Kuper then came in.  I found it easy to communicate with everyone.  On occasion Donald would ask me a question or two about myself.  I responded confidently, detailing my response.  Yep, I wasn’t embarrassed with the onslaught of conversation.  I thought I was rather talkative and submissive.  Kuper and I struck up a bit of a conversation.  Everyone was trying to be more audible than the nominal noise in the Club.

Dinner In The Tennis Club

After an hour of conversation it was time for the fantastic five to head for dinner.  Lyssa and I walked ahead to reserve the spaces, as Donald finished up with his friends and beer.  Lyssa was telling me how she was getting a headache as we reserved a table.  Stressing the point that Lyssa had a headache, I left in search of Panadol.  As I was heading out, Donald was heading in, so I gathered it was a good time for them to have conversation.  Finding that reception had some painkillers, I headed back.

Sitting down with Lyssa and her dad, we sparked up some conversation.  I didn’t feel self-conscious at all.  Kuper and Carleigh then came to join us, so it was time now to order.  Thinking that this was a buffet, I was disappointed to find out it wasn’t.  The food there wasn’t that bad but I felt like I was at an old people’s home eating in their surroundings.  Conversation flowed as we all ate.

Playing Pokies As A Team

When that was done we met up with Carleigh at the West’s Leagues Club.  For the first time, I was introduced into the Club’s Music Hall section where ‘Club Le Nerd’ was playing.  They were all dressed like middle-aged nerds.  I have to admit they played alright.  Songs that they also played were two numbers from the Hit Theatrical ‘Grease’.

Mingling near the dance floor with Lyssa, her dad, Kuper, Carleigh and some of their friends, I found the music enjoyable, as well as the company.  We were there for a couple of minutes.  Then we headed for the pokies.

Donald wanted to play the pokies, so placing $20 into the machine, we began.  Because there was three of us we took turns in ordering.  First Donald, then Lyssa, and then me.  All we done was hit the 20 line button but in sync.  Nothing could stop us.  Hitting a big one after losing most of our money, I earned top dollar that put us over what we had placed in.  Receiving a pat on the back, we withdrew the money but then put some money back in.

Every now and then we would get a big gain or two but placing more and more of our winnings in, we found no reward at the end of the day.  The only compensation was that we had spent over an hour playing the game and conversing.

When all our money was gone we headed back for the Music Hall where Kuper and Carleigh again accompanied us.  Kuper was drunk by now, cracking jokes left, right, and center.  Carleigh was flirting with Kuper’s boss in front of him, and I was enjoying the music.  Thinking that it was time to leave, Lyssa gave her dad a kiss.  We then made our way to the front reception to call a taxi.

Winter Or Summer Work Preferences?

Just a thought flash…  You don’t want to work in winter because it’s too cold and you would rather stay in.  You don’t want to work in summer because it’s hot and you would rather be on a beach having fun.  When does it work?  Myself, I’ve worked in both times and I think it’s better in winter.  Mind you, I was going out with someone in winter and in summer so it doesn’t really take that much out of you, except most of your day.

A Clear Memory Of Diary Events

Another thought flash…  I remember everything in detail, that is after I write in my Diary.  It seems that I can’t remember that well a day before I’ve written in my Diary (I wouldn’t be able to write as consistently I’m saying), but I can remember every little detail until I do write in there.  Strange.
