Meeting Lyssa’s Nan – Mad Chaos: June 16, 1998

Whoops, I got a little bit sidetracked there.  Let me tell me what happened.

Accompany Lyssa To Her Nan’s House

Saturday morning I was abruptly woken up by the telephone.  Kuper was on the phone asking us to get ready because we were leaving soon.  Informing Kuper of my plans not to come, he was taken back, but took it.  Lyssa then got upset because I wasn’t coming.  because of the pressure I was receiving, I felt obligated to go.  Not only that, I wanted to go, to see Lyssa’s family.  Deciding not to have a shower and put her makeup on, I told Lyssa that I would come.  She was ecstatic, hugging and kissing me.

Soon after Carleigh came to pick us up.  I surprised her by jumping in the car.  With only the clothes on my back, I set off to Lyssa’s house where everyone was, including Donald.  Walking into the kitchen, Teresa and Donald were having a conversation.

“Catching up on old times,” as Lyssa said in her own words.

Grabbing McDonald’s For Breakfast

Grabbing a banana, I surprised Kuper once again as he was in his room.  Sitting down in the kitchen, Lyssa jumped into the shower, washed, and then done her makeup.  Meanwhile, Lyssa’s mum had left.

As the rest of us sat in the kitchen, we pondered what we could have for breakfast.  Donald was reading his paper.  I was asked my suggestion.  McDonald’s is always a good morning meal so they went with my suggestion.  Kuper was paying.  He asked me to go along to help with the food.

Kuper and I jumped into Carleigh’s car.  Heading down to Woodbine McDonald’s, we had a good old conversation about Carleigh and how he smashed his other cars.  We then talked a little about cars,  Before we knew it, the food was in our hands and we were heading back for the house.

Having our Macdonald’s food, Lyssa was out of the shower and had joined us.  As we all ate, we pondered how the five of us were going to fit into Carleigh’s small car (name escapes me right now.  I think it’s a Barina).

Having applied her makeup, Lyssa and the rest of us headed for the car.  Carleigh was driving, Donald was in the front seat, and everyone else was in the back.  On the way to Leichhardt (near Five dock and Canterbury), we listened to the radio.  Being in the middle, I had Kuper and Lyssa on either side of me.  I’m not sure what it was but Kuper was getting nauseous, so we stopped as he jumped in the front seat.  Finding our way, we finally parked the car after just over half an hour of driving, and headed for the house.

Touring Lyssa’s Nan’s House

Once there we walked into Lyssa’s Nan’s house.  I was the second in.  Meeting her Nan and a couple of Donald’s brothers, we sat down in the lounge room.  Having Fox connected to the television, I thought it would be interesting to cruise through the channels later that night.  Lyssa took me around the house a little.  Being a City house, it was fairly small and compact.

Wishing to buy a present for her Nan, Lyssa, Carleigh and I headed for the local shopping center.  It was Lyssa’s Nan’s birthday on Tuesday (which is today).  Armed with a little bit of money, we hit the local mall which wasn’t that big.  Inside it wasn’t any different.  We managed to find a picture frame, a birthday card and a bunch of flowers, which didn’t cost that much.  Lyssa and Carleigh were both paying.  They didn’t have much money to spend, hence cheap gifts.

Nan Auctions Her Home

Heading back to the house we noticed no one was home.  We gathered they had all left for the auction.  Let me fill you in.  Nan was auctioning her home today.  She has three or more that I know of around the City.  Selling off the last of them, she is splitting up the money between her sons.  Donald will be getting a large profit.  Lyssa says that’s a good thing because Donald has to pay off his house and some more bills.  It will be a great financial fortune.

Jumping back into the car, we headed for where the house was getting auctioned, which was two streets away.  Parking the car, we headed into the two-story house, which is really half a house because of the compactness of the house.  Walking in, there was no one.  But after a couple of minutes some people started to arrive.

Over-viewing the house, it was in good nick.  With three fireplaces, two downstairs and one upstairs, it was very historically correct.  Looking great but with somewhat small rooms, I liked it, but not the price they were auctioning it for, $400,000.

Staying for the auction (my very first), there were a couple of Real Estate Agents there, all dressed up in black suits, slick hair styles.

You could see the money in their gleaming eyes.

Bidding Commences At The Auction

One of the agents started chatting along explaining what an auction meant.  Then the fun part, the bidding.

Funnily enough, none of the crackpots had enough balls to start off a bid except for two guys who started at $250,000.

The agent refused to start at that price because it was too low to accept that for the owner.  Therefore, no bid was made on the house regardless of the 20 or so souls there.  They all left unsatisfied, vultures rather.

When the auction was done, we headed out the front where Lyssa told me she used to play handball on their small front pavement.  There I got to meet the rest of the family.  One of Lyssa’s uncles had measles in his throat.  He had to get them cut out.  He wasn’t all there.  Because of this, his speech was hard to understand but Lyssa had already told me about Uncle Kenso I wasn’t worried.

A Short Cruise Into Sydney

Jumping back into the car, we learnt everyone else was heading to the local R.S.L Club.  Neither Lyssa nor Carleigh wanted to spend too much time in a club, so we went for a drive.  Our path led us to the City, where we looked at houses and compared the prices to that of Lyssa’s Nan.  Carleigh told us of a place she was staying in at King’s Cross.  Then some time later we headed back for the house.

On the way, we stopped on the main street in Leichhardt.  Walking into a grocery store, it was also compact.  We bought chips for ourselves and walked out.  There was an Asian lady behind the counter.  Carleigh noted that she checked out my butt extensively.  That explains why I got a sultry goodbye.

Join Norm In Leichhardt RSL Club

Walking towards the car, we bumped into one of Lyssa’s uncles again.  He told us that Lyssa’s dad was waiting for her at Leichhardt R.S.L club, which I learnt was just around the corner.  Walking there we had to be signed in.  Then we were greeted by Donald and Kuper.  Asking if they had pool, Kuper invited me to a game, which I didn’t turn down.

Walking to the pool tables I found them to be large, professional tables.

“You are as good at snooker as me,” Kuper mentioned.

“I’m not that good,” I told him.

Playing an actual game of Snooker with the red balls, I let him break.  Both of us were atrocious starting off, missing lots of shots.  But I can’t help it.  I’m not that good.  Blaming the cue stick, I changed it immediately.  With the lightness of the cue, my shots started sinking.  Still, I wasn’t that good and we didn’t even get to finish our game after an hour of playing.  Donald came up to tell us we had to head off.  As Kuper finished his shot we packed up.  Heading outside, we then jumped in the cars, heading back for Nan’s house.
