DoorDash Food Delivery Driver Perks – Mad Chaos: October 8, 2022

I don’t want to stay home today. Ria is asleep again. I can’t stay home to take care of Lincoln today.  I already planned to go do some DoorDash delivery driving.

I put some TV on for Lincoln. I got him a cupcake. I sat him down. He sat down next to me. We sat and chatted for about 15 minutes.

Then I told him, “Daddy has to go work. Mommy is in the bedroom. I’ll be back soon. Okay?”

He didn’t say anything. That means he understood.

I took off. That’s when I started working.

The time now is 12:50pm, October 8, 2022.  I hopped in the car ready to do DoorDash deliveries for the next two hours and a half. Hopefully I have enough petrol for a long night of food deliveries, but I can top up the petrol by dipping into my savings

It has been slow progress in these past few months to save more money than I spend.  I have $340 worth of savings in the bank, which is good.  That’s an increase of $100 from the $240 that was saved in the bank last fortnight.  I managed to save $100.  I think I’ll get across the finishing line this time, but I won’t pin all my hopes on earning money through DoorDash deliveries.

DoorDash National Crime Check

There is only one obstacle to building my savings through DoorDash deliveries however. I got an email yesterday asking me to complete my DoorDash National Crime Check.

National Crime Check DoorDash

I thought to myself, “I’ve already done this, and it shows up as being completed on my application.  So why do I need to do another one?”

I began to wonder whether DoorDash asks its drivers to do a National Crime Check every year or every two years?

Does DoorDash observe a time limit before their drivers have to do a National Crime Check again?

Seeing that email pop up regarding an incomplete National Crime Check concerned me because I read in correspondence circulated by DoorDash that if I do not complete a police check but I do begin deliveries, then DoorDash could withhold my payments until I pass a crime check.

Now, obviously, the crime check is up in the air. I have a court case in a few months. I don’t know how DoorDash handles potential criminality. Currently, as it stands, I don’t have a criminal record.  A conviction could change that however.  If the court case weighs against me, then DoorDash could freeze my account payments, leaving any money earned through the DoorDash app in limbo.

Should the email that states I have an incomplete National Crime Check be true, then I should be able to pass the crime check.  The only other problem is, how long is the National Crime Check going to take?

When I applied to become a DoorDash driver back in October 2020, the sign up process took two years and many chats with DoorDash Support to get to the finish line.  If a National Crime Check takes two years, then how long is it going to take to get money from a suspended DoorDash account released?

The email with the National Criminal Check mentioned, “If you did not expect to receive this email, it can be safely disregarded.”  Perhaps the email has been sent in error by the National Crime Check agency?  Perhaps my application returns as incomplete on their systems for some reason, while the DoorDash system has already recognized that I have completed a National Crime Check.  Who knows.

DoorDash Stacked Orders

By 1pm I drove to Minto McDonald’s, where I used a voucher to purchase a free, small mocha coffee. I smiled to the girl behind the drive thru counter.

As I drove out of McDonald’s I received my first $12 delivery from just down the road.  It was a stacked order.  One order was picked up from Yummy Manoush.  The second order was opposite Minto train station at the Minto Mirage Bistro.

DoorDash drivers who deliver at this time until 3:30pm receive an extra $2 per delivery, which is great. Both orders offered $6.02 each, with $4.02 as base pay, and $2 as peak pay.

By 1:50pm I had completed those two DoorDash deliveries.

I probably have one eighth of a tank of petrol left from the $15 of petrol that I purchased yesterday. I’m going to try to go through that petrol today.  I still have $8 in my bank account that I can spend.  I’ll spend that on petrol.

DoorDash Food Delivery Driver Perks

I parked in Ingleburn at 2pm.  Deliveries are hard to come by.  It doesn’t look like there is much work at the moment.

Some time later I received a third food delivery order worth $8.83 from Ned’s Kebab in Ingleburn.  I delivered that food locally to a customer.

I’ve already done three deliveries and earned $20.  That means my DoorDash earnings are up to $160 dollars this week.  I could plan a family day out, if I’m willing to spend money. I do have a few more free vouchers from the McDonald’s Monopoly promotion, so I might just pick up some free food.

The good thing about being a DoorDash food delivery driver is that as I drive around different suburbs, I get to see all the rubbish, junk, furniture, and the toys that people are throwing out. If I really like something, I can go pick it up.

I just saw a big kids wooden house toy box that I thought Lincoln would like.  He could put all his cars on it, but he’s already got a few of those wooden house toys.  He doesn’t need another one.

DoorDash Deliveries Outside Of Zone

My last DoorDash delivery was from Suzie Dukes Burger & Grill for $13.48.  It took me from Ingleburn all the way to Prestons. It was a ten kilometer drive.

When I saw the destination I thought, “Shit!  Why am I going all the way over there?”

Prestons would take me into another zone.  I drove to Prestons regardless and dropped the order off to a customer.

The delivery turned out to be a bonus because at 2:30pm when I finished that DoorDash delivery, I also finished my scheduled dash.  I didn’t do very well. I was on that DoorDash run for two and a half hours, but I only accomplished $35 in that time.
